51. Youth Code – Commitment To Complications  This is the best album I missed in 2016. I read something about Youth Code, but never checked them out and that was a mistake. Industrial works best when it knows how to interlock tension with release, the hard-hitting with silence and glimpses of space between the pressure. Don´t get me wrong, in contrast to their previous work Youth Code haven´t gone soft here, but you immediately get the refinement of their sound. The programming is richer and tends to include elements that could be straight up synth pop. In many instrumentals, I´m reminded of something you´d hear in a Prurient release, only in a stronger song structure and shaped up to fit the gruff vocals by Sara Taylor. 99. Nicki Minaj – Pills N Potion (The Pink Print) This is Nicki going 808´s And Heartbreaks in the best way possible. Her churning "I still love" paired with her sullen rapping works well with the simplistic beat. For all the unbearable pop escapades, Nicki knows how to redeem herself and remains capable as a rapper. 98. ♡ kitty ♡ – Marijuana (Impatiens) I admit, without the great beat by Chrome Sparks there wouldn´t be much justification for a track by kitty to be on the list. Here way of non-rap talking just shouts trash in every way imaginable. Here we have a musician who knows that her output can´t be taken seriously; so why not try singing for once. The hushed and unconfident vocals work well with the pulsating beat and become catchy after some listens. 97.
