Muse – Drones I´ve been a fan of Muse since I first heard "Supermassive Black Hole". Saying that, I also know that this song, the album Black Holes and Revelations and especially the following The Resistance where the points of departure for many older fans of their music. In a way, they were attuning to pop sensibilities and were moving away from more experimental writing; even I had to notice that after getting their full discography and being disappointed by The Resistance . But in a way, Muse were always about pop sensibilities and entangling them with rock, alternative and symphonic elements.  The most major turn I would find in their music would be a deeper focus on hooks and being catchy, which sometimes can really lead to a dementia when it comes to presenting something original and growth. Mono - The Last Dawn / Rays Of Darkness I admire Mono. They´ve been around for fifteen years now and have continued to convey their idea of crushing beauty in the form of noise, melancholic melody and wordless narrative. After For My Parents in 2011, my favorite album of that year, the question of “what´s next?” began to creep up in my mind. Even though Mono have their own musical idea and have been following it throughout their career, the criticism of repetition does hold trues as for many other instrumental band. I guess not a single fan would contest on the idea of another Mono record centered on the band playing with an orchestra, but as some, the band itself might have felt that they were constraining their energy too much. Thus came the idea for a double album and an approach akin to “back to the roots”. Admittedly, I had to listen to this maybe 15 times until enjoyment was the outcome. But thank god I did. For someone never having heard of Cloud Nothings, their sounds is a mixture of singing one might classify between emo and Hardcore and the dirtiest rock instrumentation a indie band could deliver. The voice was my gripe in the beginning, but after some getting used to, it just fits perfectly. With it, and their gear and in just a little over 31 minutes Cloud Nothings burn a hole in your heart. Pressing play will be the only cure.  In one word: Raw. The raspy voice of the singer going between actually trying to hit notes and just howling his words of despair, heartbreak and nihilism.
