Top Tracks 2014 Part XI 10 - 01

10. Nguzunguzu – Perfect Lullaby Vol. 2 (ST) I know this "track" is longer then most albums nowadays, and it is a mix, but undeniably one of the greatest moments of 2014. Nguzunguzu blend many styles of ethnic music together like reggeton, African dance and sprinkle it with the nostalgia of r´n´b. The pacing and quality of every section is majestic and never was I even close to not listening to this beast from top to bottom.   09. Gem Club – Idea For Strings (In Roses) Gem Club are the biggest find of this year. Their subtle bedroom pop leaves you awe struck. Idea For Strings lives for the moments of harmony after a breaking Christopher Barnes delivered his lines. It is the cathedral of one’s mind, in all its deteriorated qualities.  In Roses by Gem Club 08. Andy Stott – Science And Industry (Faith In Strangers) Aptly named, Science And Industry shows Stott´s take on industrial music. Once again accompanied by the angelic voice of his piano teach...

Saba – Comfort Zone

This mixtape is worth your time! Up until now I was pretty oblivious to the fact that Saba was featured on Acid Rap´s “Everybody´s Something” but immediately felt familiar with this voice. This mixtape boast some of the best beats of this year. Lucid, others soulful and still as experimental as pure banging. You can feel some familiarity with Chance´s positive sounding work but there isn´t anything “strange” to Saba´s voice or style or rapping. He just goes off and does this with technique and vigor. It´s a perfect mixture of darker and introspective songs and those that deliver a feel good idea. But still, this young rapper comes through with good content and something to say on his work: “Scum” is a great commentary on being categorized and pushed into a corner on accounts of race. A clear standout and if one thing, this comes close to something Kendrick would do. Expanding on this note, Saba doesn´t have any particular sound and executes every familiarity with othe...

This concludes the best albums of 2013. Hope you enjoy the list and get into as many artists as possible. Expect my ten favortive Singles / EP´s of this year in a few days and look forward to some albums and releases getting a full review in the future. 24. The Field - Cupid´s Head The Field - Cupid´s Head Dark wouldn´t necessarily be the best way to describe Cupid´s Head . In comparison to The Field´s previous work, maybe, but listening to the album in it-self, it would be very misguiding and put his style of electronic music too close to the categories of Goth and rave. Cupid´s Head is an breath-taking heady and atmospheric listen. With this said, it isn´t overwhelmingly complex or textured, but draws you in and lets you dwell in its own atmosphere. Moments like "No. No..." might fall on the sadder side, but if you take "A Guided Tour" or the title track into account, there is a very well made mixture of uplifting and moody sounds, without dragging ...
